Attention all Juniors:
Glenbard East High School is administering the PSAT/NMSQT for juniors during the school day on Wednesday, October 14th from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm. Please read the following FAQ to help decide if you wish to register for this OPTIONAL test. If you decide to register, then complete the registration form near the end of this page by Friday, September 11th.
What is the PSAT/NMSQT?
The PSAT is a practice SAT for juniors. Juniors will receive their online PSAT score report in December, which can be used to prepare for the School Day SAT, an Illinois public high school graduation requirement, scheduled on April 13, 2021.
What does NMSQT stand for?
NMSQT stands for the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The highest scoring students in the nation are invited to compete in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Glenbard East typically has a handful of students who score high enough to move on in the competition and gain recognition as either National Merit Semi-Finalists or Commended Scholars during their senior year. A student who does not take the PSAT/NMSQT because of illness, an emergency, or other extenuating circumstance, but meets all other requirements for NMSC program participation, may still be able to enter the competition. Read more at: National Merit Scholarship Program.
Is the PSAT optional for juniors?
Yes, the PSAT is optional. Students who do not wish to take a practice test at school during the COVID pandemic can take advantage of alternative remote practice options including free official SAT practice. (Glenbard District 87 will once again offer free SAT prep classes for juniors during the second semester leading up to the School Day SAT. More details will be provided in January of 2022).
What day is the PSAT at Glenbard East?
You may have read in the Glenbard District News that the PSAT is on Saturday, October 17th. However, Glenbard East is the only school offering the PSAT on a Wednesday during the school day. More specifically, Wednesday, October 14th from 7:30 to 12:00 pm.
Will I be excused from remote learning while I am taking the PSAT?
Your PowerSchool attendance will be marked SF for School Function. However, you must contact your teachers to determine if you are required to complete any assignments that you miss while testing.
Can I sign up for the PSAT on Saturday, October 17th at another Glenbard?
If you would like to take the PSAT on Saturday, October 17th, then send an email to our PSAT supervisor, Mr. Witte ([email protected]).
My AP exam was online in May. Will the PSAT be offered online, too?
No, the PSAT is a paper and pencil test that must be taken in person at school.
Will testing be safe during COVID-19?
The PSAT administration will follow the same safety priorities outlined within the Glenbard District 87 Restore Illinois Phase 4 School Day Plan including symptom screening and temperature checks, wearing face masks, no food, maintaining six feet of distance and having 50 or fewer people within one building space.
Can I still register for the PSAT if I am following the remote schedule during the school day?Yes, Glenbard East leaves the decision up to each family to decide if they want to register.
Will bus transportation be provided on Wednesday, October 14?
Yes, bus transportation will be provided for the PSAT/NMSQT.
I have heard many colleges no longer require test scores due to COVID-19. Do I really need to take the SAT?
For the Class of 2021, due to COVID-19, many colleges have implemented Test Optional admission policies, meaning applicants have a choice to apply without sending a test score. It is not yet known how many colleges will continue to make Test Optional policies available for the Class of 2022. A lot will depend upon the ever-changing COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the uncertainty in college admissions, the State of Illinois has continued to require that all public high school students take the School Day SAT to graduate. The School Day SAT for the Class of 2022 is scheduled on April 13, 2021.
If you have any further questions, please contact Mr. Witte, the PSAT Supervisor ([email protected]).
